Late 1930s Hercules Popular

The heyday of Hercules bicycles was the 1930s. They claimed to be the largest producer of bicycles in the world, a direct attack on Raleigh. Their lavish brochures offered the quality of Raleigh at more affordable prices.

This loop-frame roadster is a very elegant example of what Hercules offered at the time, with many attractive details.

This restoration was a particularly challenging one.  Although the bicycle was complete with almost all of its original features, it was in a very poor state of repair with extensive corrosion. It took quite a lot of work to return to a factory condition, the refinishing work being particularly difficult.

Although some small parts had to be fabricated to replace damaged originals the rest of the original parts were repaired and refinished, including the chain and mud guards and rims. We very happy to  conserve this very original bicycle.
