Restoring a Freddie Grubb Racing Bike: A Journey Back to 1973
We understand the deep connection people have with their bikes, and this 1973 Freddie Grubb racing bike was no exception. For our client, this bike was a cherished piece of personal history, so the restoration brief was clear: restore rather than replace.
We carefully preserved as many original parts as possible, breathing new life into them through meticulous polishing and restoration. For the few parts that were missing, we sourced period-correct replacements using original Freddie Grubb catalogues from the era, ensuring every detail remained historically accurate.
The frame was painted in a vibrant flamboyant red, a finish that captures the light beautifully and harks back to the era's cycling aesthetics. To create contrast, we masked off panels on the frame and applied a secondary colour, giving it the classic two-tone look that Freddie Grubb bikes were known for.
A key part of the restoration involved recreating the original decals. These were meticulously designed and produced in-house to perfectly replicate the originals, adding the final authentic touch.
The result was a stunning restoration that stayed true to the bike's heritage while ensuring it could be ridden and admired for many years to come. This project exemplified our dedication to craftsmanship, historical accuracy, and the passion for preserving cycling history.
