Saracen Kili Pro: A Precision Project with a Modern Edge

At Bells Bespoke, we recently undertook the restoration of a Saracen Kili Pro for a dedicated mountain bike enthusiast. This project was all about preserving the bike’s classic character while incorporating the client’s modern, custom aesthetic.

The key component to this project was sourcing period-correct Shimano XTR components, a key requirement for this build. The iconic Pace RX35 forks are a centrepiece of this project - sourcing a pair in need of restoration, we meticulously disassembled, serviced, and restored them to their original glory. These forks not only provide excellent performance but also represent a vital part of the bike’s identity.

The client opted for a striking all-black aesthetic with anodized purple highlights. Featured on the stem, seat clamp, and other key components— it added a pop of colour that contrasts beautifully with the deep black finish. These touches are a nod to classic MTB design while providing a modern twist.

To create the deep black finish, we began by shotblasting the frame, removing the old paint and imperfections. After thoroughly prepping the frame, we applied a durable powder coat, giving it a fresh, sleek black finish. The result is a smooth, flawless surface that enhances the bike’s overall aesthetic.

On this project we worked closely with the client resulting in a true collaboration. Parts were chosen and sourced by both parties and the design aesthetic discussed at length. The result - a rare, beautifully restored mountain bike that commands attention both on and off the trail.
